Forward SMS to Telegram

Create a bot, add it to a group and connect it to your number with a webhook. It takes about five minutes.

Keep your bot token private. Anyone who has it can control your bot and read the messages it receives.
  1. 1

    Create a Telegram bot

    • Open @BotFather in Telegram (t.me/botfather).
    • Send the command /newbot and choose a name for your bot.
    • Save the API token BotFather gives you. It looks like this:
    123456789:AAExampleToken_ReplaceWithYourOwn
  2. 2

Create a group and find its ID

    • Create a new Telegram group for incoming SMS and add your bot to it.
    • Open web.telegram.org, log in and open the group.
    • The group ID is at the end of the address in your browser and starts with a minus sign (“-”).
    https://web.telegram.org/k/#-4000000000

In this example, the group ID is -4000000000.

  3. 3

Add the webhook to your number

In your dashboard, open the settings of your virtual number and enter the following address as the HTTP forwarding URL. Replace <API_TOKEN> and <GROUP_ID> with your own values, then save.

    https://api.telegram.org/bot<API_TOKEN>/sendMessage?chat_id=<GROUP_ID>&text=Incoming%20SMS%20to%20%TO%%20from%20%FROM%%20%MESSAGE%

Incoming messages will now appear in your group in this format:

Incoming SMS to +XXXXXXXXX from XXXXX SMS text

Customise the message format

Change the text after text= using these variables:

%TO%
The recipient’s number (your virtual number)
%FROM%
The sender’s number or name
%MESSAGE%
The text of the message
